Avenue of the Giants and the Groves

Humboldt County is known for its tall trees.

The Avenue of the Giants is world famous
and one should never pass up the opportunity to
drive among the giant trees.  Some of these guys
are literally thousands of years old.

The main highway, US-101, has been improved and rerouted over the decades.

Fortunately, they have preserved (somewhat) the old highway that rambles through the redwoods.
This has become the Avenue of the Giants.

Richardson Grove
This is actually south of the Avenue of the Giants.  In fact, it is south of Garberville and Benbow.
We visited there often.  Miles of beautifully maintained walking paths through the redwood forest.
A very popular swimming location.  Yelp Review page

As you drive north on US-101, this will be about 10 miles north of the small town of Piercy.
Williams Grove
We spent many summer Saturday afternoons in Williams Grove.  It is located on the
South Fork of the Eel River.  Nice day use facilities including actual bathrooms.
Wonderful swimming and romping through the redwoods.
Of course I had to include photos of my motorcycle
