Points of Interest On The Way

Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point:
Just after you cross the Golden Gate Bridge
there is a turnoff and parking area.
There is a beautiful view of the city.
I often stop here on the way by.
Never tiring of the view.
It is different every time with the weather,
the water, the time of day, the people...

Charles Schultz Museum:
Schultz, of course, is the creator of Peanuts and Snoopy.
Located in Santa Rosa, it is not convenient for
this trip, but I recommend it for some future time.
Schultz was an avid hockey player so he built an
ice rink along with a little cafe.  He ate breakfast in
the cafe almost every day and played hockey with
his friends a couple times a week.

The Chandelier Drive-Thru Tree is in Leggett.

This tree gets its fame for the hole through
its trunk and gets its name name from
the branching top.

The Shrine Drive-Through Tree is near Myers Flat.

This has a natural split in its trunk rather than
having been carved by man.

There is also a drive-through stump here.

Note the weather in this photo.  Probably typical
of what we can expect.

About eight miles north of Leggett on the right side
is Confusion Hill.  Be careful, it is easy to zoom
by and miss.

This is a gravity zone where things roll up hill.
Naturally, they have built all sorts of optical
illusions like the trapezoidal room to fool your
visual sense of perspective.

Loleta is a very small town just north of Fernbridge / Ferndale. It is known for its cheese.
There is the Loleta Cheese Factory there where you can watch it being made and taste samples.

This would be a good stop on the way back home.

Not too far south of Eureka, you will see College of the Redwoods on your left. About a mile further south, there will be signs for Table Bluff and Loleta.

This is Eel River Drive, a scenic route along the old highway into Loleta.

When you leave, you can either continue down the Eel River Drive and catch the highway at Fernbridge.  Or, you can head east out of town on Loleta Drive.

Looking through the window at cheese
being made from the day's milk.
Very fresh!
